VISIT: http://www.kastela-info.hr/hr/kastel-luksic

Vitturi Castle was built by two brothers, Jerolim and Nikola Vitturi at the end of 15th century. They have constructed two storey high building on the cliff by the sea, from the south this building looked as a renaissance palace but from the north there was a big yard surrounded by defensive walls and fortified towers. Castle was divided from the central village square by a moat filled with sea water. Its connection to square was a stone bridge with a wooden part that was brought down from the castle by chains and in case of defense it was brought up under hoarding, extended defensive element on the northern façade. After Klis was freed from Turkish occupation in 1648, danger of being attacked by enemies reduced so this drawbridge was replaced by stone one, and the defensive moat was filled with earth. Residential wings were now created from side walls. The people from the old Croatian village of Ostrog, whose first parish church was constructed in 1530, settled around the castle. The settlement’s layout was rectangular and it was surrounded by walls. At the beginning of 19th century it was named Kaštel Lukšić.

Viturri Castle, which survived many changes in style throughout its history, was completely restored from 1993 to 2001. Its 18th century look was restored when it was its most impressive phase and today it represents cultural center of the Town of Kaštela. There are different cultural elements in it, such as Town’s Library, Croatian Music Society Biranj, Music School and Town’s Museum, and also the Tourist Office of the Town of Kaštela. Beautiful castle’s atrium becomes a stage in summer where concerts and theatre chamber plays are held in organization of Cultural Summer of Kaštela, also many eminent Croatian artists exhibit their works in great exhibit hall on the first floor of this object.
