At the end of 1990 the archeological collection is organized within the Studin Gallery. This created conditions for Gallery to grow into Regional Museum of Kaštela at the beginning of 1991. The same year we commenced the archeological research on the site in Resnik. Through following years the collection was fulfilled almost in complete as a result of our own research. Researches were undertaken individually or as cooperation with other institutions in Croatia (Department of Archeology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, Museum of Croatian Archeological Monuments in Split, Archeological Museum in Zadar and Department of Archeology in Zadar).

In 2007 and 2008 following internal organization changes of Museum the archeological collection was transformed into Department of Archeology having 3 collections divided into: prehistoric, ancient and middle age collection. There more than 7 500 objects. 350 objects are exhibited as permanent display.

First permanent display of archeological collection till 2001 was placed in the Ćipiko Tower in Kaštel Novi. New permanent museum display was opened at the beginning of 2008 in the eastern wing on the second floor of Viturri Castle in Kaštel Lukšić.
