6. Cluster-like earring

Site: Bijaći – Stombrate, the old-Croatian cemetery, grave No. 38
Material: silver
Dating: from the last third of the 8th century to mid 9th century
Dimensions: link in diameter 24 mm, cluster length 15 mm

Description: Cluster-like silver earring was found in a grave no. 35. It is different in size and pendants; the identical feature is that they all have a pendant in the shape of stylized ear hanging from the mid lower part of the link; links end with the fastening loop, on the upper part of the ear one can see a bean of granule. They are not rare in the grave of the early period of the old-Croatian cemeteries. They are always the well-made earrings made in filigree and granulation techniques and made of precious metals. They are direct import from the near Byzantine goldsmith’s shops.
